The blue tit in box 5 got a name "Pipsu Pipopää". Pipo = cap, pää = head. Pipsu is just a name and can not be translated.

Box 4 has been empty since the nesting in the summer. Yesterday a bird was seen to enter box 5 wich is also in the garden. The box is similar to box 4 and is designed so that the camera can be moved from one box to another in just a minute. So the camera from box 4 was moved to box 5. The entry hole is 28 mm so a great tit can not enter the box.

This is box 5. The outdoor camera used in box 4 was remowed. Behind the box is a popular outdoor recreation area and we don't want to photograph people unbeknown to them.

Box 5 was installed last spring. It was then filled up with sawdust. The meaning of this was to get a willow tit to nest there. The willow tit want's to dig out it's nest hole in a rotten tree but a nest box filled with sawdust is also a suitable place for it. There was now willow tit but a blue tit who totally emptied the box but made no nest. Now there is some hay and other material in the box. There is also some excrement so someone has been roosting there for a while.

At 4:14 pm a blue tit entered the box. It is impossible to say by the look of a great tit if it is a male of a female so we don't know.

The greatit tit roosting in box 2 since 30th October did not came back this evening. The reason is unknown.

It used to be wery nervous and stressed for the other birds nearby the box. The box is just beside the feeder wich dozens of birds every day. Maybe it was too stressful for this bird and it just decided to move to some other place. Or then something happened and it died. We newer know.

Here a typical defending behaviour.

The bird visited the box several times a day. Here are pictures from one single day: 8th November.

Box 2 is now empty.
